Life’s Lemons And Some Lemonade (Life Update)

Hello dear people!

Yes, I am alive. I did not fall into a deep, dark pit or disappear into space. I am alive, mostly well, very confused, and completely exhausted. And I have so much to write about that I hardly know where to begin. Life has been crazy, full of sour lemons as well as some sweet glasses of lemonade (both literally and figuratively.) So if you want to hear all about the latest happenings in my life and why I’ve been absent from this blog for the last 5 days (!), read on.

On Friday, we received some shocking news. My aunt called to say that our uncle (“papa”) has melanoma, which is one of the most serious forms of skin cancer. He is in his early eighties and already has multiple health problems but it was and still is a surprise; I don’t think anyone is ever really prepared to receive that kind of news. At this point, we don’t know how far along it is or if they caught it “soon enough.” We do know he is scheduled to have surgery sometime in the near future.

I’m trying not to worry too much, especially since we have so little information. But it’s hard because I’ve known him my whole life (obviously) and I just can’t imagine not having him there. All I can do is hope and pray.

In terms of recovery, it’s been an interesting week, full of ups and downs. We went to a restaurant yesterday with a family friend after church and it. was. challenging. But I did it. I even got raspberry lemonade, which is a big deal because getting any drink other than water is a definite no-no according to ED. It was delicious and I know it will only get easier the more I challenge myself.

I also found out today that my parents found a dietitian that is willing to lower her fees so I’ll be seeing her on Thursday. As I’ve mentioned before, I have many mixed feelings about having a treatment team but mostly I’m just relived. My urges have been strong lately and my body image has not been the greatest. I’ll admit, I had a full on breakdown last night. Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty;)

Even thinking about school stresses me out. I am still working on finishing last year’s work when I should be starting a new grade. But I’m almost done (sort of) and I’m just have to breathe. I just have to finish a research report (I make it sound so simple…), write a few essays, and sent in a couple of science tests and I will officially be FINISHED!!

Of course, than I will be starting next year’s work:)

BlogTember is down the drain so far and for that I am so sorry. But I promised myself that if it got to be too much and just became not fun anymore, I would stop and I did. It was nice to have a break from the internet but I am ready to get back to writing. In between school, life, and breakdowns of course!=)

(You better believe I just used three different kinds of smiley faces in one post!)

Here’s to life’s lemons and (raspberry) lemonade,

  1. I love the way you’re looking at things: lemons and lemonade. And sometimes even one glass of lemonade (literally and figuratively) can make all the lemons worth it. Or, at least tolerable 😉

I definitely remember having VERY mixed feeling about having an entire treatment team. It was so overwhelming! But I think it will definitely help in the long run!

I’m wishing all the best for your uncle!
